Most of Ada and Mary’s pots have drainage holes pre drilled or may need them to be drilled. This is to ensure water is free flowing. Check that these holes are not blocked before planting/installing soil.
I like to use a piece of flyscreen over the hole to allow for free drainage and to avoid the potting mix from falling out. Please make sure you use fibreglass flyscreen and not aluminium. Textile fabric, silt fence, shade cloth and cloth are not recommended as it will become clogged up which will prohibit water from running freely through the pot and the plant may end up with “wet feet” which is not good, also the excess water in the soil may damage the pot.
Add a 100mm layer of 10mm blue metal stones available from your local hardware stores on the bottom of the pot then add a good quality potting mix. Potting Mix is free a draining product which enables the water to flow through the soil. Its best not to use our WA soil / dirt / sand as it really is not suitable to grow plants in and is not only hydrophobic (water repellent) but contains no nutrients required for a healthy plant to grow. I like to use a Hortico All Purpose Blend Potting Mix you should get change from $6 for a 25lt bag. Avoid using a cheap blend as it will not contain soil wetter or slow release and will dry out super quick, very frustrating
